It has been awhile since I have posted! Been bad during the holidays. Here is the goblin complete with an ink job. Permanent marker and a pen were all I used. I haven't done much inking, just a couple pieces where I took it very seriously. A lot of shadows feel off and some hit right on the spot. Making the feet, lower legs, and dagger in its sheath blacked out brings a lot of depth to the arm in the fore front of the drawing. I could have done more to get a metallic sheen on the knee pad as well as the armor on his arm. The skull shoulder pad looks great. The club though...needs some work.

Overall, quite successful. I have so much to learn in this stylization! It was really fun to try out something a little out of the ordinary. Looks like I need some practice!

Lady of the Woods

It was around Halloween time and I felt a need to draw something...Halloweeny. Since most of my art work already includes monsters and zombies, I decided to go for something a bit more traditional. This witch isn't meant to be frightening as so much mysterious. Coming across her in the forest would most likely be a friendly interaction. Following her to her home or offering to help carry some things could lead to riskier circumstances. Some witches are good, some are bed. A few witches just like to meddle in your life and alter your circumstances.

A few things to note: The shadow on the face because of the hood gave too much contrast in that area. That shadow should have been carried out into the piece. The lighting was intended to be more ambient. I love her mismatched shoes. Other than that I tried to give her an old fashioned, slightly scrappy look. Not to fear, but to spark more curiosity.

Golbin Brute: Penciled Shadows

Penciling in the block shadows to prepare for inking. Always helps to clean up and have a little bit more of a guide. Goblin Brute: Ink'd is next in the set.

Goblin Brute: Line Work

This is a line drawing of my Goblin Brute. I have a special place in my heart for goblins. I like their classic look with serious spins. I adapted a pose for this drawing from another pencil drawing of Batman, done by another artist. After altering the pose slightly I had something stronger to work with. You can see faint lines of repositioning and erase marks from areas that took a lot of struggle for me to get right. I expected this to be more of an inked piece of art, so I fixed it later.

The concept for this comes from the idea of a hearty, thicker goblins who are assigned in pairs to be guards. Trained from a younger age these goblins are cruel best friends with their fellow brute companions. Most often they are out in front of the camps, hidden in the rocks or canyons. They fall upon lone travelers or small groups to steal and collect items they want or the clan needs. When numbers are too overwhelming or a threat is posed to the camp, brutes will blow their horns and warn fellow goblins. They are ver cocky, but relentless and greedy are the most noted attributes. One on one combat would not be fun, and you better pray you don't have anything shiny!

Locust Grenadier

A quicker piece in my sketchbook. Fan art from Gears of War. This character is my most famous choice while enjoying multiplayer with my friends. He is more commonly known to us as "Shirtless Joe" or often "The shirtless guy is Kessler." So naturally I equipped him with my favorite arsenal, a boltok pistol and a frag grenade (explosives and headshots? who could as for anything more?). I am also most often seen with these weapons in hand as well.

The scales and bracer work was really fun in this one. The Grenadier doesn't usually sport bracers, but I thought they added a nice detailed touch. The scaling was a tad meticulous but nothing too difficult. In the end it gave him a lot more texture. The hand and angle on the pistol were extremely difficult. I still don't feel like I gave it justice, but it turned out looking much more natural than the original sketches and attempts. Capturing the face is hard on these guys, but I gave it a good effort. Enjoy the Fan Art!

Clan of the Plagued Goblet

This concept was inspired by a love of zombification and orcs. My friend Blake and I were talking. His affection for the Orcs and my affection for the undead sparked a meeting in the middle. To develop the idea I started with a few different positions. I wanted a multi subject drawing, which I need a lot of work on doing, which forced me to experiment a little. I decided to use lighting to help draw in a couple figures. This was a difficult decision of how to lay it out, but the orc "chieftain" with the goblet needed to be the center of attention.

Concept: A clan of orcs discovered the goblet long ago. The clan has since chosen their strongest greenskin to hold the goblet. It was promised in the legend to bring them immortality. It has but the goblet also comes with a curse to plague the bearers. Each orc drinks from the goblet to gain immortality. Some decay faster than others, the strong can resist a lot of the affects. The go, bearing the emblem of the goblet reaping down foes and bringing death as they go.

A few things to note:
The maggots falling out of his wound, the cockroach in his skin and the millipede crawling on his shoulder area. The raven on the head is one of my favorites parts as well.
That is it. I have been horrible about keeping up this blog. I have done art and a few projects over this semester of college. Nothing from art classes, but I would like to add some sketch pages too. I am going to go scan things RIGHT NOW after I complete writing this post.

Update on conceptualizing: Most of my ideas have filled up sketch books, I haven't quite done as much finished work as I could have been doing. Despite that I need to make some work based out of these ideas.
